1) I am going to NABE!!! (National Association of Bilingual Educators) Yippee! Even though I don't have an offical bilingual classroom, I am a teacher of English Learners. I can't wait to hear the latest research available on English Learners, hear awesome speakers such as Jose Luis Orozco, Virginia P. Collier, Jim Cummins, Lily Wong Fillmore and Kate Kinsella and last but certainly not least pick up FREE goodies at the vendor tables. Yay!
2) Check out GRD's latest post. He has posted a song that addresses problems with NCLB and testing.
3) Vacation has been good to me. I have had plenty of time to rest, relax and enjoy myself. I am refreshed and ready to go back on Monday. I am actually looking forward to it!
Have a good weekend everyone!

congrats! i have quite a few future bilingual teachers in my class this quarter!
How lucky for them to have you as a teacher! NABE and the state counter part, CABE might have student rates if they are interested in attending any of their many conferences. Additionally, the local school districts have CATESOL http://www.catesol.org/index.html conferences that are usually held on Saturdays and are very cheap to attend. ($20-$30) They also might have a student rate. If your studnets are interested in that I could probably find the info for you. E-mail me! I am very interested in past and curent research and application with English Learners so I have a lot of info on that subject!!!
:-)
Grat!! These conferences re-energize you...
They give you "strength" to go out and do it! That yes, you are correct- Bilingual does matter!!
Un fuerte y caluroso abrazo.
Cuidate!
ps
what school do you teach at?
i have a cousin who works at Joe Serna, Jr. Charter School
Coco:
I am about 45 minutes south of your cousin in Turlock.
Actually excited about going back to work? Wow, I wish I had that feeling!
I went to NABE way back in 95- and Selena was the entertainment at the reception the first night. Unfortunately, we did not get to go to that reception, but it was so cool to be there. It was in Phoenix - where is it this year? I love meeting other teachers and swapping stories. And the vendor tables are killer! We also had 2 wonderful keynote speakers who had books to sell. (Victor Villasenor and Gus Lee.) I bought both their books and stood in line to have them signed. I'm so excited for you!
NABE is in San Jose this year - just 2 hours away! I can't wait...
