A colleague of mine told me yesterday that she received a phone call this weekend from a former student. He told her that he is a superintendent of a school district here in California. He went on to tell her how he thought of her often and that she was his "dream maker." She inspired him and made him feel as if could do anything he put his mind to.
What a cool thing. I hope i get one of those calls someday!

I have no doubt that you will! From what I have read about you, and your teaching style, your student's lives are enriched by having you as their teacher. You care about your students and that shows!
I once had a student with learning disabilities who had previously been in an all day SE class. He wrote a passage comparing the segregation he felt in that class with the segregation his father knew as a black child in the 1950's South. Amazing child. I ran into him one afternoon some years later as he was packed and ready to depart for Howard University!

i read the letter and i have it saved...i know i will need reminders at times when teaching becomes hard.
