FLICKR Creepiness

I post most of the pictures I take on FLICKR. I really like the fact that I can access my pictures anywhere that I can get internet access. I usually make all of my pictures available to anyone who happens by the site. Some of the pictures of my students or family I have given limited access to because I want to keep those pictures confidential.

Two days ago, I had a FLICKR notice telling me that one of my pictures was tagged as a favorite of someone else. The picture was of a kindergarten Sabi on her first day of school in her uniform. I went to view that person and there was no profile or picture album available. That kind of creeped me out. I then went on to view this person's "Favorites Pictures file" and found another little girl in a uniform and the rest of the pictures, about 15 or so were of kids around the world going to the bathroom. Some of the kids were completely naked and two were of a teenage girl on the toilet. I was officially creeped out at this point. I immediately went to the picture of Sabi and flagged it so that only I had access to it. This took it off of the creepy stranger's "Favorites."

Since this incident, I am felling a little weirded out about posting pictures. I am not sure what to do. I like posting the pictures online and don't want to have to block all of my pictures. I am going to have to explore FLICKR a bit more and see what other options I have.

Any ideas?

That is majorly creepy! Be careful.

i've heard about some other sketchy stuff via flickr.

i think that you can block that person from viewing your photos, but generally, if your make your pics public, you risk that kind of creepiness.

i guess you could just make less photos public and limit others for only family and friends...

That is truly frightening. Kudos to you for acting on your instinct and checking this person's profile. Is there a way to report that user to Flickr?

You should limit those photos to family or friends. That way only people you know/trust will be able to see those photos.

You'll have to designate those people as friends or family by going to their profiles.

I do this a lot with pictures I don't really feel like sharing to the random user.

You might also want to make sure you limit who can download pictures or who can order photos if you haven't done so already.

I am so creeped out by this. I wish I knew something intelligent to tell you to do, but unfortunately, what I don't know about FLICKR is a lot. I will keep this in mind should I decide to add it to my blog.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I think I have reconfigured my FLICKR to prevent this from happening in the future.
