What's For Dinner?

A splash of color

What is your family cooking for Thanksgiving dinner? Do you eat a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal? Do you eat something else? Please comment on your Turkey Day menu and whether or not you will be preparing your meal or dining at someone else's house this year.

Dressing or Stuffing - What do you call it?

Our family gathers here for Thanksgiving. We eat Turkey that has either been BBQ'd or oven baked. (sometimes both!) We also dine on my mom's cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, Margie's excellent cranberry relish, salad and some type of cooked green veggie, usually peas. The sweets include pumpkin pie for most of the famiily and mince meat or a raisin and nut pie for Margie and myself! (ok...we share this pie with eveyone, we just don't touch the pumpkin pie!) We also have plenty of cranberry bread to go around.

Walnut Pie

Don't forget to comment on your Thanksgiving Day meals. Enquiring minds want to know...

LOL, we're so Mexican. There's a variety of food at our table. There's turkey, chicken, ham. Rice, beans, macaroni, glazed carrots, corn. Tortillas and rolls. LOL, we have it all!

Sometimes even tamales. But we always, always have sweet pototoe pie. YUM.

u have a great thanksgiving!

CAD: Take pictures and post them. This time I will try to take pics of ours too. Last year I was so caught up in eating that I didn't take many!

We're quite traditional... turkey, homemade stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, assorted veggies... and for dessert, pies (usually pumpkin and apple). This year, I'm making a harvest cake - it's got apples, sweet potatoes, raisins, walnuts, pumpkin, and carrots in it. Should be a tasty year. :)

We'll be going to my partner's mother (not sure if I should call her my MIL or not) who lives in the burbs. She's Southern so it will be the usual turkey, cornbread dressing, rolls, green bean casserole, football and naps.

I will take a book. I can't just sit and "watch" football and the only reading material in the house is Southern Living Magazine.

Our kindergarten teacher made the harvest cake last month for a faculty meeting. It was so good that I asked for the recipe. Sounds like a strange mix of ingredients, but it was very moist and tasted like a spice cake or carrot cake. Check my blog on Thursday night for the recipe and pics. :)

I have NEVER heard of green rice. Be sure to eat a tamal for me. Take pictures on Thursday too!

Enjoy the day with your MIL and family. I think MIL sounds just fine! BTW...waht are you reading? Yesterday I started and finished Cross by James Patterson. I am hungry for more literature now...

Dree:
I will watch for the recipe and pics!

I think we've been in the US too long, our meal is quite traditional, especially when I make it (like I'm doing this year). It will consist of Turkey, smashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, gravy (both dark and white), a salad, and pumpkin and possibly pecan pie. During the meal, I will probably be wishing we had some salsa so I might make some of that too.

Ditto with msabcmom's dinner menu, since we usually get to eat at her house! Let me tell you, it's the best. The stuffing is fabuloco. Even the vegetarians in the crowd love Thanksgiving dinner at the Villalobos house! --Teragram

We are total traditional- turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, we also have a cranberry applesauce jello mold which is heavenly, green bean casserole, sometimes sweet potatoes, always pumpkin and apple pies. This year we won't actually do the eatin' until Saturday. Thursday we will relax and have pizza!

We had turkey, cornbread in the shape of Texas (my parents, who couldn't be with us this year, grew up in Texas), green beans (from Trader Joe's...good as fresh!), cranberry relish (in honor of New England, where we live now), and a curried rice dish because I thought we should mix it up and celebrate what a diverse country we live in. I made some pumpkin pie, too. Plus, my mother-in-law brought us some black-and-white cookies from New York; they're huge cookies with a texture that's kind of like cake. Very delicious. That's funny someone mentioned green rice; I was going to make a different kind of green rice (with cilantro & other stuff, from a cookbook) but didn't have many of the ingredients at hand.
